As noted earlier, basketball is on the rise in Canada. Western Canada is currently an under recruited area of the country. Just Wednesday afternoon I had this conversation with New Mexico State Associate Head Coach, Paul Weir a native of Toronto.
The current school boy scoring leader in Alberta is 2014 6'3" shooting guard Ryan McLaren (Sherwood Park, AB/Facey Composite). His Province leading scoring average is 28.3 ppg, including 38% from beyond the arc.
In early March, McClaren had a 47 point effort against powerhouse Harry Ainlay. (Edmonton, AB) That video is displayed below. At 6'4" McClaren is willing to mix it up on the boards. He needs to gain strength but he's long enough to give other guards fits either when he's running the one or the two. He's certainly a scorer, not only a shooter.
He's got deep range but has a bag of tricks on his way to the goal, including a runner, a floater and kisses the glass as well.
