(At left: Tyler Singleton courtesy MaxPreps) At the end of the 1st quarter Pflugerville leads 18-14. They've actually dominated the boards and the action but have blown 4-5 layups which could come back to haunt them later. Tyler Singelton has 8 for AAA, and Nosa Ebomwonyi has 8 for Pflugerville.
At the half, AAA has nabbed a 36-33 lead. This should be a dog fight. 2015 G King McClure has begun to assert himself. He has 13 at the half while his backcourt mate Singleton has 11. Ebomwonyi has 10 and Abrian Edwards has 9 to lead the Panthers scoring.
At the end of the 3rd quarter, AAA leads Pflugerville 51-50. McClure and Abrian Edwards are both going at it in a classic encounter of high level players, with neither one giving an inch. Singleton and Ebomwonyi are the "X" factors. Which one will have a great 4th quarter?
The 4th quarter belonged to 2015 G Tyler Singleton who completed an excellent game with 10 4th quarter points, finishing with a game high 32. 2015 Dalyn Mumphrey battled on the boards all game long and finished with 12. King McClure finished with 18 for AAA. For Pflugerville, Abrian Edwards led with 16, and Ebomwonyi added 15.
I felt like this was going to be a low scoring affair. Alamo Heights is capable of playing at several different paces but Houston Strake is a deliberate, efficient team who patiently waits for their opportunites. The first quarter ended with AH up 11-9. Once again, even though 2014 Ben Lammers did not score he's having an impact on the game with his defensive presence.
At the half, Alamo Heights has grabbed a 28-19 lead on balanced scoring. Big Ben Lammers has 3 block and 3 assists, showing his versatility in addition to his 11 points. Strake is being led by 2014 forward Dylan Livit with 6 points/6 rebounds.
At the end of the 3rd quarter Alamo Heights leads 42-36 as Strake just won't go away. 2014 wing Hunter Thompson is doing yeoman work for the Crusaders with 12 points and he's battling on every play.
Both teams were in the bonus at the beginning of the 4th quarter (a recurring theme with the new hand check rules) so there were plenty of free throw opportunities. At one point Alamo Heights canned 11 in a row which snuffed any momentum Strake hoped to build. As a result, Alamo Heights cruised to a 67-48. Ben Lammers finished with an efficient 17 points/5 rebounds/5 assists for the Mules. Strake's Hunter Thompson had 16 points to lead the Crusaders
