(Photo courtesy of Grand Canyon) Everyone knows that there's no bigger advocate for my daughter in law, Judy Jones than the D1 Nation, and rightfully so. The pride of Monroe, LA/Wossman is at it again. Judy's athletic ability, will to win, her character and leadership are off the charts. Throw in the fact that she also carries a 3.98 GPA, was named an All American and Conference Player of the Year, and Conference Scholar-Athlete of the year last season at Grand Canyon University and you've got the total package.
With Grand Canyon University moving to the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) this season she knew there would be new mountains to climb and challenges ahead. She has not disappointed as the upstart Antelopes have run their early season record to 6-2. She's averaging 14.8 ppg/8.9 rpg, and 2.1 spg on the season. This morning she was named as one of College Sports Madness' High Major Players of the Week, and specifically the WAC Player of the Week.
She had 22/12 rebounds in an overtime win over North Texas, 18/11 rebounds vs Mississippi State, 22/11 rebounds in a 62-60 loss to UCLA and 12 points/9 rebounds in a win over Southeastern Louisiana. As the level of competition rises against PAC-12 and SEC teams she turned it up a notch. Her four game road average of 18.5 ppg/10 rpg. Judy will also receive her Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science later this month. Congratulations Judy!
