Dallas Baptist University Patriots Wins on Perry's Record-Breaking Performance

What a great night for one of the D1 Nation's finest alumni.  Sophomore guard Jonathan Perry (Kerrville, TX/Tivy) has proven to be one of Dallas Baptist's top players during last year's freshman campaign but he put any questions to rest as he had 47 points/10 rebounds to break the school single game scoring record.

Perry's story is one that should be scrutinized by player's and family's who think it's a D1 scholarship or nothing at all.  He was offered by D1 schools Houston Baptist and UTEP.  He said no, I want to honor my commitment to Dallas Batpist. That's a mature decision for a young man to make.  I'll be honest, at the time I thought gosh, how can you turn down playing for Tim Floyd?

It came down to what was really important for the Perry Clan.  First and foremost it was a Christian education and a calling to make a difference in that realm. Jonathan's actions on and off the court are his witness to Jesus Christ.  His family and mine are very close and I'm almost as proud of him as Mr & Mrs. Rick Perry of Kerrville, TX.  Enjoy the link below to DBU's site.

As a postscript, here's myself and Jonathan playing golf in Phoenix, AZ July of 2010 prior to playing in the Big Shots Desert Duel.  Next time the 55 year old man gets strokes from the young 'un!
