By Ron Hopkins

Haley Cabral (Victoria, BC/Claremont Secondary) has been called the “floor general” by writers and commentators who’ve watched her play. A 2014 5’5″ point guard, Haley has starred at the club level for Swoosh Canada as well as at her high school. As a sophomore she moved up to Claremont Secondary after they’d graduated a talented senior laden team. Most thought the cupboard was a little bare and that it might be a rebuilding season. However, the sophomore took the reins and led the Spartans to their 5th consecutive Island Championship and a final ranking of #7 in British Columbia.  During the season ending tournament she earned provincial all star recognition.

Last season had it’s share of challenges as a coaching change coupled with a number of new players definitely caused Cabral to hone her leadership skills. She became an extension of the coaching staff in guiding, mentoring and assisting her  new team mates in developing.  She capped the rebuilding year with a 25 point performance to catapult Claremont into the provincial championships once again.  We expect an outstanding upcoming senior campaign from her.

Swoosh Canada Director Ron Hopkins characterizes Haley as a coachable, tenacious leader. She reads the floor well, is able to pick apart defenses and has an advanced broad understanding of the game.  She’s quick, defends well and although a college level PG she is also capable of piling up points of her own.  Her skill set includes the ability push the ball up court, to get into the paint and penetrate, as well as an accurate pull up jumper.

Haley is also an excellent student with a 3.87 GPA coupled with above average SAT scores of  1540 Total (Math 600, Reading 460, Writing 460). She has a pretty good idea of where she wants to be in the next 5 years as well, intending to be a business major. Haley is also an accomplished piano player as well as an all star volleyball player. Interested colleges  can contact either/or both of her club and high school coaches. Info is as follows:
