D1 Nation Alumni Report: November 14-17, 2013

(At left: Houston Cougars Ta’Shawn Thomas)Here’s the D1 Nation alums top performers over the last 4 days. Let’s start on the gridiron where Robert Griffin III (Copperas Cove, TX/Baylor/Washington Redskins) had 264 yards passing to up his season total to 2711 passing yards.  He also rushed for 44 yards.  Meanwhile NFL rookie Alex Okafor (Pflugerville, TX/Texas/Arizona Cardinals is still transitioning from a DE in college to an NFL linebacker.  He had a tackle and it’s encouraging to see him on the field.

On to the NBA, sophomore forward John Henson (Round Rock, TX/North Carolina/Milwaukee Bucks) had 8 points/8 rebounds vs  the Indiana Pacers and then followed up with a 10 point/6 rebound performance vs Oklahoma City.

Thursday night saw Texas-San Antonio Senior Hyjii Thomas (Houston, TX/Booker T Washington) had 22 points/6 rebounds in the Roadrunners loss to Houston.  Junior forward Ta’Shawn Thomas (Killeen, TX) led the Houston Cougars over UTSA with 14 points/6 rebounds/4 blocks. Redshirt sophomore Karim York (Del Valle, TX) had 14 points/5 rebounds for Prairie View A&M. Junior guard Max Yon (San Antonio, TX/Reagan) had 22 points/4 assists for the Air Force Falcons. San Diego State sophomore Winston Shepard had 12 points for the Aztecs.  Redshirt sophomore guard Tre Demps (San Antonio, TX/Reagan) had 10 points for Northwestern in their west coast loss to Stanford.

In Friday action Junior wing Jaleel Williams (Killeen, TX/Ellison) had 12 points to lead the San Jose State Spartans. Hartford’s Junior forward Mark Nwakamma (Leander, TX) had 14 points/4 rebounds/3 assists in their win over Fairleigh Dickinson. Westpoint sophomore guard Dylan Cox (Cedar Park, TX) had 8 points/4 rebounds/4 assists for Army.  Texas Longhorns sophomore PG Javan Felix (New Orleans, LA/St. Augustine) had 15 points vs Stephen F Austin, and Sophomore forward Connor Lammert (San Antonio, TX/Churchill) dropped 12 points/9 rebounds for the Horns in the same game.

(At left:) Vanderbilt redshirt sophomore PG Eric McClellan (Austin, TX/Austin) had 13 points/6 rebounds. Rice Junior forward Seth Gearhart (Wilsonville, OR) had 10 points for the Owls. Sophomore guard Alex Caruso (College Station, TX/Consolidated) is emerging into a bonafide star for the Texas A&M Aggies. The hometown star had 11 points/5 rebounds/7 assists/3 steals in their win. Senior PG Cody Doolin  (Austin, TX/Westlake) led the San Francisco Dons with an outstanding 33 point/2 rebound 4 assist effort. 

On Saturday, Colorado Buffs freshman wing George King (San Antonio, TX/Brennan) got 11 minutes and produced 7 rebounds for Coach Tad Boyle. Junior PG Deon Mitchell (Pflugerville, TX) had 12 points for Northern Iowa. Colorado State’s got to be tickled with redshirt junior J.J. Avila (McAllen, TX) as he’s producing big numbers right out of the gate.  He had 30 point/7 rebounds/6 assists vs Weber State.

Redshirt junior guard Jordan Clarkson (Converse, TX/Wagner) had 13 points/3 rebounds for his new Missouri Tiger squad.  San Jose State junior Jaleel Williams (Killeen, TX/Ellison) had 13 points/6 rebounds vs Northern Illinois.

(At left) On Sunday, true freshman guard Marcus “Cool Daddy” Keene (San Antonio, TX/Warren) of Youngstown State showed he’s not shy at the collegiate level either as he dropped 20 points against the UMass Minutemen.  Keene was legendary in San Antonio for hitting buzzer beaters in high school and on the club circuit with Texas D1.  Junior forward Ta’Shawn Thomas (Killeen, TX) continues to be a double double machine for the Houston Cougars as he had 18 points/13 rebounds/7 blocks vs Lehigh. Also for the Cougars redshirt sophomore PG L.J. Rose (Houston, TX/Second Baptist) added 18 points/4 rebounds/6 assists.

Air Force junior guard Max Yon (San Antonio, TX/Reagan) had 14 points/3 rebounds/7 assists vs Arkansas-Pine Bluff.  Sophomore G Cole Martinez (San Antonio, TX/Central Catholic) had 11 points for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Abilene Christian Junior guard LaDarrien Williams (Manor, TX) had 12 points against a tough Iowa Hawkeyes squad. Senior Post 6’10″ Cory Jefferson had 16 points/10 rebounds for the Baylor Bears.

New Mexico Lobos junior Post Alex Kirk (Los Alamos, NM) had 24 points/13 rebounds/5 blocks vs Charleston Southern. True freshman G Cullen Neal (Albuquerque, NM/El Dorado) had 11 point/4 rebounds/7 assists for his hometown Lobos.  Reshirt sophomore Tre Demps (San Antonio, TX/Reagan) had 12 points/3 rebounds for Northwestern.
