The Clarendon Lady Broncos braved icy weather to go a short trip up the road to White Deer. The trek was worthwhile though as the Lady Broncos used a strong 4th quarter to down the 1A Lady Bucks 46-40.
Junior Madison Smith and Senior Ashlynn Crawford each had 12 points to lead the way in the victory. Clarendon's Achilles thus far has been free throws. They have been between 55-60% from the line, most nights. In the first three quarters they went 3 of 8 from the charity stripe but when it counted most they sytmied White Deer's late game runs by going 9 of 10 in the final stanza. Now that's clutch!
Coach Korey Conkin was extremely pleased with this turn around. In addition, the last couple of games has really seen an uptick in the defensive effort as the team is picking up charges (and near charges). Although they didn't get the calls last night, Coach K said they could have easily been credited with 8 charges. The point is that the girls are buying in and are beginning to sacrifice their bodies and playing an improved brand of team defense. This was a nice win heading into the Christmas break.
Clarendon went on the road to Dumas to play the Demons. Clarendon led for most of the game but Dumas was urged on by their home crowd and hot three point shooting in the 4th quarter to nab the come from behind win, 62-61.
Clarendon shot a paltry 38% from the free throw line and 25% from beyond the arc. By comparison Dumas was 55% from the free throw line and a scorching 46% from the three point line.
The Broncos got 17 a piece from Senior Donovan Thompson and Sophomore Jmaury Davis as well as 15 points from Junior Caden D'Costa.
