Clarendon 30 Quanah 19

As I predeicted before the first game, this could be a special season for Clarendon as not too many squads in the 2A classification in West Texas have as many athletes and depth at the skill positions.  Speed kills!

Here we are now in the 5th week of the season and the Broncos have run their record to 5-0.  The latest to fall were the Quanah Indians.  Clarendon are proving to be road warriors as well, with three of the wins coming on the road, this one almost a 3 hour trip from their home confines.

Clarendon   8 8 8 6-30

Quanah       0 6 6 7-19

Jmaury Davis

Junior QB Brock Hatley had the steady hand, going 5-11 in the passing game for 122 yards and one INT.  The kill shot was the 90 yard pass and run hook up with Sophomore Jmaury Davis. The other offensive TD came from Sophomore Sylvester Ballard who had a 7 yard TD run and an electrifying 95 yard punt return which he took to the house. That wasn't the only special teams score of the day as Davis also turned an onside kick into a 50 yard score as Quanah was caught napping.

It's hard to get a boastful hard quote out of Coach Clint Conkin but he did say,

"Our kids beat a good team in Quanah.  They're growing up and seeing improvement on some things week by week, but we've still got a ways to go.  I'm seeing a lot of growth on a team that is fairly young.  I'm proud of them."

Sylvester Ballard

Defensively, Sophomore Jmaury Davis made the biggest impact as he recovered a fumble, had 2 sacks and 7 tackles. I'm sure Quanah was sick of seeing Davis on both sides of the ball as he had a 90 yard catch and run reception for the boys in green.  To top it off he recovered an onside kick and found the end zone on that 50 yards later. He was my Player of the Game.

Junior Rhett Caison was the leading tackler with 8, followed by Senior Jordan Herndon with 7. The Broncos were in the Indians backfield all evening hurrying the QB and finishing with 8 sacks total.

For all your remodeling needs don't forget to give Nathan Jaramillo of Nathan's Construction a call.  He's homegrown in Amarillo but serves all the surrounding area.....a name you can trust!
