Goddard set out to defend therir 4A State Championship by scheduling several tough early season match ups vs larger schools. Overall they went 1-2.
They lost a tight one to Mayfield, 2-1, beat Las Cruces 6-5, and then in the finale with their expected pitcher Owen Alsup out with a rolled ankle, Goddard took it on the chin in an 18-2 loss to Las Cruces in the second game of the double header.
The standout through the 3 games was Noah Nunez as he hit .500, going 4-8. He had a double, triple and scored 4 runs showing pop from the lead off spot and playing centerfield for the Rockets.
