Clarendon Girls Prep For Playoffs, Boys Look to Finish First In District

By Max Ivany

The Clarendon Lady Broncos have clinched 3rd place in District with a win over Amarillo Highlands. Their playoff Bi District matchup will happen Monday, February 17th in Amarillo. They're the second game of a playoff doubleheader so tip off will be approximately 8 pm.

Clarendon lost a hard fought contest to Stratford just before the New Year 60-57.  "The Lady Broncos can expect a hard fought game from Stratford who play a traditional man to man defense, mixing in occasional pressure. They're disciplined offensively, but Clarendon has the edge in athleticism',  per Lady Broncos Coach Korey Conkin.  We'll see on Monday night who can impose their will.

MaKayla Brown

Girls: Clarendon 53 Amarillo Highland Park 23

In a less than ideal warm up prior to playoffs, Clarendon cruised to a 53-23 win over Amarillo Highland Park which provided little in the way of a challenge. After trailing 8-6 in the 1st quarter it was all Lady Broncos.

Senior MaKayla Brown had her best statistical game of the season as she powered home 26 points in the paint. Brown outscored Highland Park on her own.

Typically Clarendon will get most of it's scoring from Senior Mattee Johnson, Juniors Jade Benson and Ashlynn Crawford.  To advance in the playoffs you need extra efforts from unsung heroes. Brown's production could be a good omen vs Stratford in Monday night's playoff game. Or who knows, it could be an under classman.

Don't forget seniors, every time you lace them up it could be your last game.  Lay it all on the line and have no regrets. Best of luck from Coach Ivany and the D1 Nation
