The D1 Nation is known for it's multitude of athletes who've gone on to play in college, including over 300 at the Division One level. Primarily they've played basketball in college but we've had our share of baseball, soccer and swimming stars. And yes, football as well with a number of collegiate stars including the Heisman Trophy Winner, Robert Griffin III (Baylor).
The latest name in the limelight is Ohip State true freshman, Garrett Wilson (Lake Travis, TX). Like so many talented players he had his choice of sports. Wilson was a HM combo guard who had a devastating first step, tight handles and a deadeye perimeter game. From the moment I met him and his family, it was pretty much a foregone conclusion that if Ohio State came calling in his future then that's where the transplanted Ohion was headed.
He spurned Texas, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Michigan and others to head to Columbus. I found some old photos to look back on for posterity sake when Wilson, along with now Cal freshman D.J. Thorpe were running things with the Texas D1 Ambassadors. These photos were from the AAU 15U National Championships where they finished 3rd in the Nation.
Best wishes ahead for Garrett and all our alumni.-Coach Ivany
