2021 Mario Sanchez
Denver City (TX)
The Denver City Mustangs football squad is nearing one of its best records in school history as they enter the final week of the 2019 regular season with a record of 8-1.
Much of this season's success can be attributed to the dual threat of junior quarterback Mario Sanchez.
Last Friday, Sanchez completed 10 of 14 passes for 178 yards and two touchdowns (TD). He also did it on the ground carrying the ball 14 times for 215 yards and two rushing TD's.
For the season, Sanchez is 73 for 128 through the air for 1,111 yards and 11 TD's. Entering the final game of the year, the 5'11", 175 pound Sanchez, is just shy of 1,000 yards rushing for the season with 114 rushes for 841 yards and 12 TD's
A win this Friday over Tornillo (1-8) will clinch the Mustangs the Class 3A, Division I, District 1-3A championship.
