2020 Loic Fouonji
Last year’s Texas Sportswriters Association Class 6A All-State Honorable Mention wide out, picked up where he left off thus far last season. No time bigger than last week, when Fouonji played huge when his team was against the ropes.
The 6’4”, 189 pound senior took matters into his own hands when the Lubbock, TX/Frenship Tigers kept it a little too close for comfort. He caught 11 passes for 238 yards and three TDs in helping Class 6A’s #19-ranked team overcome a 28-7 first quarter deficit.
Fouonji scored twice in the second quarter, the first on a 36 yard TD pass from Mikey Serrano. The second TD, a 57-yarder, gave Midland Lee the lead for good in the game as they led 30-28 at halftime. Fouonji’s final TD was a 27-yard scoring strike as Lee moved their record to 6-0 on the year and 1-0 in District 2-6A with their 59-36 win.
The big day by Fouonji put him three catches shy of setting the school’s career reception mark, currently held by Sheldon Bass, Jr. with 103.
For the season, Fouonji has 32 catches for 848 yards and 15 touchdowns.
