By Armando Flores

In Week #4 of Texas High School football, the West Texas Heroes were a couple of Eagles; the mascot of both Eldorado and Pecos High Schools.

2022 Santiago Hernandez

Eldorado (TX) High School

The Eldorado Eagles traveled Friday to face the Iraan (pronounced Ira-Ann) Braves and managed to push their record to 3-1 on the season.  Sophomore running back Santiago Hernandez was called up from thr JV and had a huge game in leading the Eagles to the win.

Hernandez finished the game with 193 yards on 10 touches. He scored once on a 10 yard run and also had an 85-yard touchdown.

The 5'8" sophomore also caught two passes for 23 yards as he accounted for 216 total yards in the game.

Eldorado (3-1) hosts the McCamey Badgers (2-2) this Friday night.

2020 Armando Granado

Pecos (TX) High School

Last Friday, the Pecos Eagles moved their record to 2-2 on the season behind their rushing attack led by senior running back Armando Granado.

In the team's dominating 25-6 road win over the Big Spring Steers, the 5'5" Granado left the Memorial Stadium crowd stunned by rushing for 200 yards on 31 carries with one touchdown.

It was the second time in three weeks in which the workhorse Granado broke the 200 yard rushing mark. The first time came against the Kermit Yellow Jackets in the second game of the season. In that game, Granado had 31 carries for 225 yards.

First year Pecos Head Coach Chad Olson stated, "We are a lot more run-based this year than in the past. We were just taking what the defense was giving us. Armando ran the ball hard and he's hard to bring down."

Pecos (2-2) begins their district slate this Friday against the undefeated Fort Stockton Panthers (4-0).
