Texas D1 Ambassadors 17U Prep For Adidas Gauntlet

By Frank Watson

The Texas D1 Ambassadors 17U squad spent the month of March preparing for the Adidas Gauntlet by competing in two events in Houston, TX. They kicked off with the Houston Ice Breaker and followed up the Future 150 Main Event.  Their combined record was 7-2, losing in the semi final both times.  They head to Dallas, TX in two weeks for the Adidas Gauntlet.

Since it's inception of Jim Hicks' Houston (TX) Ice Breaker, the Texas D1 Ambassadors have been kicking off it's club season at this event.  It has now grown to over 300 teams and as always our group had a great showing in this event which is a great gauge too see where you are and what you have to work on.

With only two practices under their belts, the squad of 17 rising seniors went 3-1 in the top division.  There's plenty left to work on, but there were also many positives which came from the weekend.

Coach Watson's group for the most part, plays hard. They are a little undersized but that's ok, because it forces smaller players to up their intensity on the defensive end and cause mismatches when they have the ball on offense.  Many times it comes down to who wants it more. Scholarships are not given out like candy. They are earned!

In the Future 150 Main Event

I'm excited to watch this group compete and develop over the next several months, under Coach Watson and his Staff's tutelage.
